How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Yea i know this can go on the match thread, but genuinely interested in opinions, and hopefully not c&b tinted ones, for the benefit of genuine views. Not being a follower of the French league, I don't know that much about Lyon, just know a few of their players, and last night was not the best time to judge them due to the sending off and the fraud in black, but apart from the cheating they seem a decent unit, good passers, but maybe lacking a final ball/finish, and we did manage to get round the back of them a few times.

With no away goal rule last night is now totally irrelevant, next week is just a one game winner takes all affair. So are you very confident, cautiously optimistic, or have a bad feeling about it, etc? Personally, I think we are angry and will give it everything and pound for pound we are better than them, also have Lanzini back, so I would say I'm cautiously optimistic. The one thing that would worry me is how we would react if we went a goal down, but we have proved on many occasions in recent times that we can come roaring back from a deficit.

I'd say right now 60-40 in their favour. An early goal from us sets it right up but an early goal for them almost kills it. Lucky the away goal rule was removed.

You think there’s just a 30/70 chance we qualify for Europe next season?

Have you seen Wolves’ remaining games? 7th is wrapped up.

Even the two outfield players who started Thursday were subbed at half time.

Think Frankfurt only started 3 players that started Thursday including the GK.

Them playing yesterday is pretty immaterial.

Problem is and has been since teams worked out our strengths, we are very ineffective with the players we have in the squad ( small nnumber of options) with teams that sit deeper and press well and have mobility / pace in midfield.

We have been successful in the last 2 seasons as a counter attacking team against oppositions who bring the game to us and commit men forward. Lyon did this in the 2nd leg and left a lot of room for our front men to exploit. There was so much space. Soon as space and time is denied we struggle. Set pieces then become the best and often only way to create anything. So one thing we have to do is improve the delivery on corners, free kicks and crosses into their box as we were downright atrocious at it in the first leg aside from the goal.

Burnhammeronsea saw the game. Moussa Diaby of Leverkusen ripped Frankfurt apart. His style is very similar to Bowen. The Commentator said that the Frankfurt players ran 2 km in the first half then the Leverkusen players and Leverkusen ran them rigged. .

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
I never follow other teams but Marseille 0-3 Lyon flashed up on my phone and I know they're rivals so I took a look. Payet was playing and made some lovely defence splitting passes but Marseille strikers wasted them all. Payet is wasted there. Lyon scored all 3 in 2nd half, Dembele and Toku scored.

Got me thinking Lyon are not too shabby and what a great result it was out there and it would be a shame to lose to a pretty average German side.

I guess it's down to which West Ham turns up on the day. We all know they're capable and sometimes you just need a little luck i.e. not hitting the woodwork three times.

Frankfurt lost to Leverkeusan (sp) 2-0 tonight and they only have a short time to recover for Thursday. Good news.

We’re better than them. We hit the woodwork 3 times when playing under par. We should beat them over in Germany but stating the obvious, whoever scores first should go on to get through to the final

Reality check...
Thin squad...tired and lacking goals...little creativity...slow sideways midfield...lost to poor Arsenal...
Massive improvement needed to get to the final...

40-60 I'd say...
Please prove me wrong

Slim.

But with a Moyes West Ham team, that puts in 100% every game and is fully committed we have a chance ( one of the rare times we can say that about a West Ham team in the last 60 years) . To win will need a lot of things to go our way or things going against Frankfurt.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
We can easily play better than we did in the first leg.
I don't think they can play much better.
Early goal knocked the stuffing out of the team and crowd.
We still had the better chances , hit the woodwork.
Thought we were a shade unlucky.

Got the feeling they knew about our players and we got caught by surprise by some of there's. We knew about Kostic. That Japanese player, Kadara was a surprise packet.

They are decent, but no better than Sevilla or Lyon.
Lyon thrashed there next 2 opponents.

First goal wins.
We're going to get it and onto victory.

One ,last, big fucking effort from the lads and get into the final.
Then fuck off the season until the Final.

We are going through. BELIEVE.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
We need to get off to a fast start and score an early goal to settle the nerves. If we do that we will go on and win.

Winning this tie will go down in our history, even if we lose the final.

If we win it. I reckon there's a 30-40% chance, so far from impossible.

Noticed that Yarmelenko just played for the under 23s whatever that means for Thursday.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Just seen that Frankfurt lost thier league game to Bayer Leverkusen 2-0, rested players and rotated using all the subs.

Like us this is the main priority, they wont get Europe otherwise next season, we at least can get conference league unless we really go to shit.

Feel optimistic we can do this, may have lost at the weekend but we are due a win and will turn up for this massive game on Thursday.
